Beth Brown

Beth Brown joined Environmental Health & Safety in June, 2015. Her role as Emergency Planner ensures that the university emergency plans, including the Continuity of Operations Plan and the Emergency Operations Plan, are current, satisfy state and federal requirements, and meet the university’s needs. In this position, she also provides Emergency Preparedness Workshops on campus, as well as overseeing the university Unmanned Aerial Systems (drone) policy.

Previously, Beth was the Emergency Manager for the city of Fresno, California. She also worked as a Regional Planner for the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and plans on seeking a Masters in Public Policy at George Mason.

Andrew Beaune

Title: Lead Fire Systems Inspector

Andrew Beaune joined EHS-Fire Safety in October of 2012. Andrew comes to George Mason from Simplex Grinnell where he gained experience in fire suppression and fire alarm systems. In his role at George Mason as Lead Fire Systems Inspector he is responsible for all fire alarm inspections and testing he also assist in the inspection and testing of the fire suppression systems along with fire drills and fire extinguisher certifications and inspections. In his time at George Mason he has received his NICET certifications level 2 in Inspection and Testing of Water Based Fire Systems and Level 1 in Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm systems. Andrew has been trained in fire extinguisher use, blood borne pathogens, first aid, AED, CPR and lab safety. In the future he plans to further his NICET Certification.    

Randy Beahm

Title: Lead Fire Safety Inspector

Randal Beahm came to George Mason University in December of 2003 as a member of Facilities Plumbing Shop and transferred to the PM Shop in April of 2004. Randal joined EHS as a Fire Systems Inspector in March of 2009. In June of 2018 Randal was promoted to Lead Fire System Inspector. His responsibilities are to schedule, inspect and test building Fire pumps, Pre-action systems, Dry systems, Valves, Backflow preventer assemblies and Standpipes per specifications listed in National Fire Protection Standard #25, and inspection of portable fire extinguishers per specifications listed in National Fire Protection Standard #10. He also assists with Fire Alarm testing and Fire Drills as needed. Before coming to George Mason University Randal worked for Vanity Fair at a Wrangler jeans manufacturing facility.

Randal holds certifications in National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II Fire Protection Engineering Technology Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Fire Suppression Systems, DPOR Certified Automatic Fire Sprinkler Inspector and is a DPOR Licensed Backflow Prevention Device Worker.

Gregg Black

Title: Director, Emergency Management & Fire Safety

Gregg Black joined George Mason University in October of 2010 as an intern with the Environmental Health and Safety Office. Gregg worked with the Emergency Preparedness and Response staff drafting emergency plans for the university. In July of 2011, Gregg was hired on as a full time Compliance Specialist supporting both Fire Safety and the Emergency Preparedness and Response groups within EHS. He serves as the Automatic External Defibrillator Program coordinator for all campuses and has made significant contributions to the emergency evacuation signage, the establishment of fire safety record keeping procedures, and Emergency Preparedness Guides.

Previously Gregg served as a manager of the Community Service Officers program, and Assistant Emergency Manager at the California State University, Chico Police Department. Gregg graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 2010. He is currently seeking a Masters in Public Administration from George Mason University.

Amy Springfloat

Title: Finance and Administration Manager

Ms. Springfloat started working with the Office of Laboratory Safety in 2006. As the office evolved into the Risk, Safety, & Resilience office, her role as the Office Manager has continued to expand. She is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the RSR office including all fiscal and HR matters.
Ms. Springfloat earned her Bachelor degree in Sociology from James Madison University and is currently pursuing Masters of Public Administration from the Schar School of Public Policy and Government.

Meredith Muckerman

Title: Assistant Director, Information Systems & Technology

Ms. Muckerman joined Environmental Health & Safety in October 2013 as Training and Outreach Coordinator. In this role, she was responsible for the day-to-day management of the EHS training program, and handled training related questions and concerns from registrants, EHS staff, and EHS partners. Meredith was also responsible for publicizing the training and various events offered by EHS to the greater George Mason community. 

In August 2015, Meredith took on a new position, Communications & Technology Manager with Risk, Safety, & Resilience (RSR), which includes both EHS and the Office of Risk Management (ORM). In January 2021, Meredith’s took on the role of Assistant Director, Technology & Information Systems for RSR. In this role, Meredith oversees RSR’s use of technology, data management, and communication channels (e.g., RSR-managed websites and reports). 

Prior to working at George Mason, Meredith worked as a trainer and customer service representative with the National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase, MD. Meredith earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2009 and earned her master’s in health communication from Mason’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences in May 2020. 

Christian Garcia

Title: Program Support Specialist

Christian Garcia joined Risk, Safety, & Resilience (RSR) April 2021 as a Data Quality Assurance Specialist. In this role, he was responsible for managing George Mason’s COVID metric data, COVID surveillance data, along with vaccine data. In May of 2022, Christian began a new position as Program Support Specialist. In this role, he manages and provides support for RSR’s application Environmental Health & Safety Application (EHSA) and RSR’s online trainings in MasonLEAPS.

Prior to joining George Mason, Christian worked for Contra Costa County, California. During his time in Contra Costa County, he served as an Accounting Technician for the Auditor-Controller and Employment & Human Services. Christian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Mason’s School of Business.

Ronda Franklin

Ms. Franklin joined Risk, Safety, and Resilience (RSR) in July 2019 as an Administrative Specialist.  She serves as the point of contact for EHS on the Fairfax campus.  In this role, she provides project, program, and administrative support, including meeting management and training program support, for RSR and EHS.  She also serves as RSR Vehicle Coordinator, Telecom Coordinator, and Equipment Coordinator, and is the primary purchaser for the department.  

Prior to joining George Mason, Ms. Franklin worked in the worker’s compensation insurance industry as a Product Management Specialist (Policy and Claims Services).  She also holds her insurance agent’s license in Property and Casualty.  In 2008, she earned an Associate of Applied Arts degree in Fine Arts at Northern Virginia Community College. She earned the Mason Fiscal Administrator Certificate in November 2022. 

Megan Neff-Boyle

Megan Neff-Boyle joined Risk, Safety, & Resilience as an Emergency Management Specialist in December 2025.

 

Prior to joining the RSR team, Megan started her career at George Mason in 2016 as an undergraduate student, later joining the university in a full-time position starting in August 2021, managing the university switchboard and information desks. Megan then began working with University Events as the scheduling and event coordinator overseeing scheduling of all student events in September 2022.

 

Megan is a two-time alum of Mason earning her bachelors of arts in Criminology, Law, and Society in May 2020 and her Juris Masters with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Mason’s Antonin Scalia Law School in December 2024.

Lindsay Daniels

Lindsay Daniels is rejoining Operational Risk Management (ORM) after four years of expanded professional experience, bringing renewed skills, passion, and vision to the organization. Prior to her return to ORM, she worked as a Senior Quality Systems Specialist and Quality Assurance Specialist. Such roles allowed her to hone her skills and expertise in clinical quality, organizational development, training, project management, and process improvement that now equips her with a well-rounded perspective on risk, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

Lindsay previously served within ORM, where she supported key functions related to office support, budget management, and operational integrity. In her current role, Lindsay supports accident and incident investigations, claims review, and enterprise risk processes while partnering across departments to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. She is committed to enhancing program efficiency and leveraging data-driven strategies to support the University’s mission.

Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a minor in Public Administration from Liberty University and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Educational Leadership. She is also actively pursuing a Ph.D. in Strategic Leadership, with research interests in organizational culture, leadership development, and institutional resilience.
